Start of the 2019 Season

Ulyss Morinda lost no time in launching into his season with a fanfare!

After having given sperm last winter, Ulyss returned home to Wavre to rejoin Rik in February. He had stayed in work, so very quickly Rik was able to take him for a training outing, at a little 1m25 competition. Ulyss walked it!

He left for Villeneuve Loubet on the 5th of March and took part in some small competitions (1m35) to get him back into practice over poles and with competing. During the second CSI at Villeneuve, a 2* CSI, he also did the Grand Prix at 1m45. Rik contented himself with a quiet and sensible round.

On the 4th of April, Ulyss was ready for his first 3* CSI at Bonheiden, in Belgium. There, once again, he took part in two smaller classes - over 1m40 where he was placed, then the 1m35. A nice healthy outing.

After a day off, Ulyss and Rik took part in the 3* Grand Prix over 1m50.  Ulyss hadn’t jumped such a height for several months. He immediately showed us that he was in great form, finishing a very technical round without touching a fence. He was among nine clear rounds out of the 52 starters. Rik and Ulyss found themselves in perfect harmony : these two know each other inside out and have a fabulous rapport.

In the jump off Ulyss produced another superb clear round : he finished fourth. Rik wisely judged that he shouldn’t go too fast this early in the season.  Ulyss jumped wonderfully (videos on this page) and didn’t lower a pole in three days, neither on the course nor in the practice arena.

4th in a 3* Grand Prix from his first attempt! BRAVO Ulyss and BRAVO Rik!
